The past few years have seen a change in marketing, from traditional print marketing to online marketing, and now more than ever it is important in the industry to have a boxing website and online presence.

As a boxer, it is important to get fights, the more fights you get often depends on your fans and to get fans you need to market yourself. Boxing websites are a place where Boxing fans can go to get the latest information on fignts, boxing news and up and coming fighters. Although there are some good publications like Boxing weekly, a good boxing website can be more up to date and have exclusive information about fighters.

Magazine sales have dropped iver the past two years as more content is published online and now promoters, boxing gyms and boxers have to look to see if a website is a good way to go. Promoters, have been the first to catch on but Gyms and boxers are following. Even up and coming fighters like Trevor (the wrecking) Crewe are starting to invest in boxing websites to get the publicity and fan base they need to help them secure title fights. The more tickets you sell the better fights you will get so encouraging fans to follow you through a website or online marketing is a good way to improve your chances.

Another boxing star in the making is Olympian Tony Jefferies who has gotten savvy with online marketing and earned himself the nickname ‘Twitter’ through his presence and popularity on the social media tool Twitter. Tony updates his followers and fans in 140 charachters about what he is doing, his training schedule, what he’s eating and even holiday pictures from Ibiza. This keeps him at the forefront of peoples minds and has increased his popularity also creating a place for him as a boxing spokesman in some cases.

Combining social media with a good boxing website is a great way for boxers to gain popularity and something UFC, and MMA have been doing a bit longer than boxers. If you have a good website it can be relatively easy for people to use facebook and Twitter to market it. These are just basic free to use tools that can help you sell tickets, BoxPro believe in building boxing websites with the intention of promoting either a gym, a promotion company and in often the Boxer to help them succeed and make money!

Bring back Steve Bunce!

In case you haven’t heard about it on Twitter, there is a new boxing website dedicated to bringing back Steve Bunce since the demise of Setanta. Steve Bunce, or Buncey, is one of the most respected boxing writers and interviewers in the game, and rightfully so in our opinion. His show “Bunce’s Boxing Hour” was THE show to watch for boxing fans, which aired on Thursday on Setanta Sports. Setanta (formerly the home of British Boxing and our recommended channel for boxing and UFC) recently went into administration, and as such has stopped broadcasting in the UK.

Fans of the show have started a new website called “Bring Back Bunce” (www.bringbackbunce.net) where a petition can be signed to try and bring the show back! Boxing websites can also show their support, and many high profile boxing celebs have also backed Steve and co-presenter Andy Kerr (aka the Kerminator).

For anyone that doesn’t know about Steve Bunce, he has one of the most enthusiastic and entertaining boxing writers / interviewers, but is also extremely knowledgeable.  He has been involved in the industry for years, and has interviewed fighters like Muhammad Ali, Prince Naseem, Chris Eubank, Bernard Hopkins and many many more. He is respected by both fans and boxers alike because he is direct and to the point. His questions are direct and he asks the questions that the fans want to know, which can often lead to heated discussions.

To find out more and to show your support, check out the website - together we can bring Steve back!!!

In our boxing websites category in the Box Pro blog, we are starting to review some of our favourite sites or boxing websites that simply catch our attention. With our main service being boxing website design it is important that we are constantly researching the latest sites, and we thought we should share some of our findings!

Saddoboxing (www.saddoboxing.com) is primarily a boxing news website, and a very good one that we would definitely recommend. I first came across Saddoboxing a while back, however I was immediately put off by both the design and the large amount of advertising (not just advertising embedded on the page such as Adsense, but also advertising popups which I find very annoying). As such, I went no further than the website homepage - which was a mistake.

Over the following days, I kept stumbling upon Saddoboxing as it was regularly returned in the Google search engine results pages for a lot of my search terms. I decided that I had maybe been a little bit too fast to judge the website, and so I ventured further. The content on the website is actually very good, and is regularly updated with both boxing news, photos from the events, information about boxers, training tips and much more.

Additionally, the site features a very good forum. Time limitations have meant that I have only joined in a few select discussions myself, however you don’t need to be a member to browse through all the posts. It provides a fascinating, uncensored insight into the views of the boxing fans, and is one of the more widely used forums so there are lots of replies and users.

Im sure a large percentage of boxing fans will already know of Saddoboxing, but if you haven’t been to the site then check it out.

Andy Ball is a well known boxing photographer based in the North West. He can be seen at ringside at nearly all the boxing events based in the Manchester and North West area. He is known and respected by boxers, trainers and promoters alike because of the quality of his work and his enthusiasm for the sport. Many boxers regularly visit his website, Flickr and YouTube channels in the hope that he has uploaded pictures of them from the latest events. As well as taking photos at events he is also available for photoshoots and training sessions, and his work has been published on many popular websites and magazines including Boxing Monthly and Boxing News.

His new boxing photography website was launched in April, and showcases his favourite photos as well as providing an archive of his work in the blog section. The blog is going to be regularly updated and will contain his latest news and information about the upcoming events he will be attending. To find out more you can visit his website, which also provides his contact details if you want to speak to him directly.

If you’re looking for a good boxing resource, I regularly use www.boxrec.com for checking out fighters records. It’s great for seeing who a fighter has fought in the past, who they’ve beaten, who they’ve lost to, when the fights took place, and how the fight ended. It also shows their upcoming fights! You can browse for fighters or search for them by name. You can also find fights by searching dates, and recently they updated the site for a manager search.
